The present study aimed at identifying the effectiveness of a proposed program based on pictorial reading strategy in teaching the course of the history of Egypt and the present world to develop historical comprehension standards for third graders secondary at Sadat military secondary school, Al Kharga Educational Directorate, New valley governorate. To answer the questions of the study, the researcher used both the descriptive and the experimental approaches. Instruments and materials of the study were implemented. They were a proposed program based on pictorial reading strategy and a test of the standards of historical comprehension which was implemented on 30 third graders secondary at Sadat military secondary school, Al Kharga Directorate. Calculation of "t" value revealed that there was a statistically significant difference at 0.01 level between the means of scores gained by the participants of the study sample on the pre/post test, favoring the post test. Implementation of the effect size equation revealed that the effect size was 0.98, and the impact strength was 19.89, which was high. This is considered a good indicator of the effectiveness of the proposed program based on pictorial reading strategy in teaching the course of the history of Egypt and the present world to develop historical comprehension standards for third graders secondary. Based on the results of the study, the researcher recommends that history courses should include the standards of historical comprehension, and the activities that suit the pictorial reading through presenting factual and realistic problems in Egypt, the Arab world and even the whole world.
