Abstract
This research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a number of proposed competencies in fashion design based on the aesthetic approach in developing the concepts and skills of fashion design and clothing taste. The research sample included 35 female students specialized in ready-made garments at industrial secondary schools. One experimental group research design was used to answer the research questions and prove its hypotheses. The research tools included a concept test, an observation card, and a clothing taste scale. Results revealed first, a statistical significant difference between the mean score of the pre and post application of the concept test in favor of the post pplication scores; second, a statistical significant difference between the mean score of the pre and post application of the observation card in favor of the post application scores; third, a statistical significant difference between the mean scores of the pre and post application of the clothing taste scale in favor of the post application scores; finally, there was a positive correlation between developing the concepts and skills of fashion design and developing the clothing taste among the research group. Pedagigical implications and future research issues are disscussed based on the research findings.
