The research attempted to develop social and emotional competencies among secondary school students by verifying the effectiveness of using a four-cycle model (4Cs Model) in teaching sociology. To achieve this goal, the researcher administered a measure of social and emotional competencies on the research group as pre administration. The research group consisted of 64 students (32 for experimental group and 32 for control group). The experimental group was taught two units entitled (Social Construction and its Components), and (Socialization) from the sociology curriculum for the second year of secondary school according to the four-cycle model (4 Cs Model), while the control group students studied the same units of the sociology curriculum using traditional methods. Then, the researcher administered the measure of social and emotional competencies on the research group as post administration.
The research results were as follows : There were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group in the pre and post administrations on the measure of social and emotional competencies for the experimental group. There were statistically significant differences between the scores of the experimental group students in the pre and post administrations of the measure of social and emotional competencies in favor of the post administration. There was a large effect of using a four-cycle model (4Cs Model) in teaching sociology on developing some social and emotional competencies among the experimental group students. The research recommended the necessity of transferring to learner-centered learning through the application of four-stage model (Hendy`s 4Cs Model). It also recommended using classroom and extracurricular activities within the curricula of philosophical and social subjects to enhance social and emotional competencies.
