the study attempted to investigate the relationship between the university education and extremist thought. To achieve this aim, the study identified the concept of extremism, monitoring the most important features of extremist figures, identifying the most important reasons that university youth tend toward in extremist thought. The study made a link of the reasons that lead the youth to extremist thought and political, cultural, national, and regional context, and demonstrating the most important effects of it. The study also investigated the relationship between education, extremism, violence and terrorism, and reviewing some experiences in confronting the phenomenon of extremism, including the requirements of the new environment and its efforts to extremist thought. The study also diagnosed the current reality of the educational efforts of Egyptian universities in general, and Cairo University in particular, as the current study distinguished Cairo University as a model, presenting its educational efforts. The study employed the critical approach in analyzing the various aspects of the study.
The study concluded that there is a necessity for changes concerning individuals and society to form educational relations that contribute in to confronting extremism through raising an individual who practices critical and scientific thinking, accountability, creativity, dialogue, acceptance of others, tolerance, peaceful coexistence, a culture of citizenship, and human rights.
The study ended with proposing a framework for fostering the role of the Egyptian university education in confronting extremism. These visions are based on the fact that the responsibilities for Confronting Extremism fall on various institutions of society, such as family, media, and religious, cultural, educational & political institutions. The research also indicated that University Education is a key element that contributes to in Confronting Extremism. The study explains the philosophy, principles, objectives, procedures and tools of implementing the framework.
