The aim of the research is to investigate the impact of using reciprocal teaching in developing the skills of understanding historical events among students of the first grade of middle school, and to achieve this goal the two methodologies (descriptive and experimental) were used in the application of the study tool represented in (testing the skills of understanding historical events) on a group of students of the first grade of middle school amounted to (60) male and female students divided into two groups (experimental - control ); Historical events as a whole and when each skill of his skill for the benefit of the students of the experimental group, as well as between the average scores of the students of the experimental group in the pre- and post-applications to test the understanding of historical events as a whole and when each skill of his skill in favor of the post-application, "which confirms the effectiveness of the use of reciprocal teaching in teaching history in developing the skills of understanding historical events among students of the first year of middle school. The current research recommends the need to use reciprocal teaching in teaching social studies in general and history in particular at all educational levels, and the need to train teachers on the four steps and activities of reciprocal teaching (prediction - clarification - questioning - summarizing) and how to use them within the classroom because of the desired educational goals
