The study aimed to determine the extent of the negative academic effects and procedures to reduce them when using social work major students at Dhofar University in the Sultanate of Oman. Social media from their point of view; Its approach was the descriptive and analytical method. The tool was the questionnaire, with a sample of (41.25%), out of (400) male and female students who represent the study population, and the study came out with several results, the most important of which are: 1- The extent of the negative academic effects resulting from the use of social media by Dhofar University students was moderate. According to the arithmetic mean of (3.26), and the standard deviation of (0.83). 2- The extent of the proposed academic measures to mitigate the negative academic effects of Dhofar University students’ use of social media was high, with a mean of (4.00) and a standard deviation of (0.52). 3- The study showed that there were no statistically significant differences at the level of statistical significance (a = 0.05) between the responses of the study sample towards the negative academic effects resulting from the use of social media by Dhofar University students, and the same result was regarding the proposed measures to mitigate those effects according to the gender variable. The study recommended: the necessity of continuing awareness programs and activities carried out by the concerned authorities from the university and outside it on the university campus to reduce and reduce the severity of the negative academic effects. It also recommends the establishment of youth groups on websites that adopt the academic issues of students and what affects them in this aspect, along with holding workshops and training programs. them to enhance methods and skills of cybersecurity and digital protection.
