Mentel Retardness is one of the severe problems that anyone can face. Its direct effects represent in low level of functional mind performance and depending only on the intelligence level leads to an inaccurate diagnosis of mild mentel retardness, so the specialist should evaluate
two areas which are:
1) Functional Mental Performance.
2) Adaptive Skills or Skills associated with adaptive behavior.
Adaptive behavior refers to the ability that makes the students independently and socially responsible. This means the students that have a mild mentel retardness needs an educational curriculum to teach them socialization skills, adaptive behavior skills, and independent functional performace skills for instance (self-help, travelling, consumer skills, communication and spending free time ); and social functioning for instance social relationships, sharing, expressing feelings, understanding the feelings of others, and situational appropriateness ); and job performance for instance, responsibility, specific or qualitative work skills, and cooperating with others, so these are the skills that should be included in an individualized education program. Early intervention for children with mental disabilities which happens from year one to six for a child is of great importance and doubtlessly, it helps the child not only achieving a reasonable amount of communication with others, but also helps in interacting with them.
