The study aimed to determine the extent to which dimensions of sustainable development are included in Arabic language textbooks at the preparatory stage. To achieve this goal, the researcher used the descriptive analytical approach. The researcher analyzed the Arabic language books in the preparatory stage in the Arab Republic of Egypt, which numbered 6 textbooks for the three grades in the preparatory stage, with two books for each grade, one book for the first semester and one for the second semester.The researcher analyzed these books in the light of the list of dimensions of sustainable development that was reached in the study, which are three main dimensions: the social dimension, which includes five sub-indices, the economic dimension, which includes five sub-indices, and the environmental dimension, which includes five sub-indices.
The research ended to many results, the most important of which is a list of the dimensions of sustainable development that should be included in Arabic language books at the preparatory stage. The study also found a discrepancy in including the dimensions of sustainable development in Arabic language books at the preparatory stage. The social dimension came in first place, followed by the economic dimension, followed by the environmental dimension. It was found that there is a weakness in including the dimensions of sustainable development in Arabic language textbooks at the preparatory stage.
This calls for a reconsideration of these books to include the dimensions of sustainable development in them more than they already have. Preparatory school students and students in general cannot do without their need to be familiar with the dimensions of sustainable development in order to deal well with the available resources and to achieve the sustainable development that the Egyptian state seeks to achieve. Therefore, the study recommended the necessity of including lists of dimensions of sustainable development that were reached in the study in Arabic language textbooks at the preparatory stage.
