This study aims to evaluate the content of the music education curriculum prescribed for the primary stage in light of the requirements of digital musical competence, which has become one of the essential pillars of music education in an era of rapid technological advancement. The researcher sought to examine the extent to which the current curriculum incorporates digital musical skills and aligns with modern trends in music and arts education.
The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach, using content analysis as the primary method. The analysis tool was built upon a set of criteria derived from educational and musical literature, in addition to international standards related to digital musical competence in basic education. The analysis was conducted on music textbooks issued by the Ministry of Education and officially approved for use in primary schools.
The findings revealed a noticeable lack of digital musical skills within the curriculum content. There was no reference to modern music technology tools, such as audio applications, composition software, or digital recording platforms. This deficiency may limit students’ opportunities to develop creative and interactive thinking and reduce the curriculum's relevance to their contemporary digital environment.
In light of these results, the researcher proposed a suggested framework for developing the curriculum content, aiming to integrate digital musical competence through four main dimensions: digital music production, multimedia-based music appreciation, performance using digital tools, and interactive digital assessment
The proposal also outlines the essential requirements for implementation, including teacher training, the provision of digital tools, and the development of a supportive learning environment.
The study concludes by recommending the reconstruction of primary music education curricula in accordance with the standards of digital musical competence, in order to foster the development of a contemporary, musically literate learner—one who is both a creative producer and an aware, engaged recipient of music
