This study explores “Training the Human Faculties in Islam: Integration of Knowledge, Emotion, and Action” from an educational and analytical perspective. It argues that disciplining the faculties (jawāriḥ) is not merely an external behavioral adjustment, but a core Islamic competency integrating cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions to shape a balanced Muslim personality—combining sound belief, emotional vitality, and upright conduct.
The research highlights the renewed importance of this value, deeply rooted in the Qur’an, Sunnah, and statements of early scholars, yet rarely treated as an independent educational construct. Training the faculties promotes self-discipline, strengthens Islamic identity amid contemporary moral and behavioral challenges, and supports the development of a virtuous society grounded in justice and morality.
Using a descriptive-analytical method, the study examines Qur’anic and Prophetic texts and scholarly insights, analyzing them through the triad of knowledge, emotion, and behavior. This approach yields an educational framework for reviving the practice of training the faculties in today’s Muslim context.
Key findings confirm that disciplining the faculties is integral to Islamic character formation, enhances self-monitoring and behavioral regulation, and safeguards Islamic identity from deviant influences. Its effects extend beyond the individual, contributing to social reform and the preservation of collective values.
The study recommends integrating this competency into curricula and da‘wah programs, encouraging applied research linking it to human sciences, raising public awareness, and designing practical programs that nurture disciplined faculties through obedience and moral action.
