This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Duolingo application (Duolingo App), which is based on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, to improve English-speaking skills among 4th-grade female students. The researchers created an oral test and a speaking assessment rubric, which were then applied. A mixed-methods design was employed, and quantitative data were collected from a study sample of 92 students. Participants were equally divided into two groups: an experimental group that used the Duolingo App for studying and a control group that used the traditional method. Both groups underwent the oral post-test. Additionally, qualitative data were collected from the mothers of five students, who were asked three open-ended questions to assess the effectiveness of the application.The results revealed statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the two groups in the oral post-test, in favor of the experimental group,based on the five predefined levels of speaking proficiency. Moreover, interviews with the mothers indicated that the Duolingo App had a positive impact on improving their daughters' English-speaking level, particularly through continuous motivation,feedback mechanisms,and AI-driven features.The researchers recommended using the Duolingo App in early educational stages as a supplementary tool to enhance speaking proficiency and benefit from its features, providing an interactive and stimulating learning environment for English language acquisition.
