This study aimed to investigate the level of Qur’anic text comprehension skills among students at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University and to identify effective proposals for developing these skills from their perspective. A total of 236 male and female students from the Wadi Al-Dawasir Colleges Complex participated in the study during the first semester of the academic year 1447 AH, selected using a simple random sampling technique, selected using a simple random sampling technique. To achieve the study objectives, the researchers developed a questionnaire comprising three main dimensions: direct comprehension skills, inferential comprehension skills, and applied comprehension skills.
The descriptive survey method was employed. Findings revealed that the overall level of Qur’anic text comprehension skills among students was moderate, with a relative strength in direct comprehension skills (moderate) compared to notable weaknesses in both inferential and applied comprehension skills (low). Moreover, the students expressed a very high level of agreement on the proposed strategies to develop their comprehension skills. The results further indicated no statistically significant differences in students’ responses regarding their level of Qur’anic text comprehension attributable to gender (male–female) or academic discipline (theoretical–practical), whether at the level of subskills or the overall score. In light of these results, the study provides several recommendations to enhance Qur’anic text comprehension skills among university students.
