The gifted education teachers and specialists are not satisfied with the extracurricular activities that is presented to the gifted students in the activity classes. The offered extracurricular activities are only limited to using the paper and the pen and the data show. This resulted in the desire of the gifted students to miss the classes as they are not considering their interest, multiple intelligences and individual needs.
This research aims to investigate the impact of using the 3D pen in project-based learning on the engagement of the gifted students in the extracurricular activities. The researcher suggests designing a learning program based on the components of the model of the project-based learning. This model improves the gifted students different skills in the extracurricular activities classes. The researcher uses new technology to produce the practical products at the end of the learning program, which is the 3D pen.
The study uses the descriptive research to describe how much the gifted students are engaged in the learning program that was designed for them through using the observation card and also by evaluating the products through using product evaluation card.
The researcher selected 15 gifted students from a grade five class in a public school in Jeddah. The researcher reports the high level of engagement of the gifted students in the extracurricular activities classes. This clearly was translated in their behaviours and in their pair work through the learning program. The researcher recommends to activate the gifted students activity classes with what is suitable for their interests, abilities and skills and to use the technology especially the ones that involve using the five senses and improve the higher thinking skills of the gifted students.
