The study aimed to determine the degree of the independence of Saudi universities in light of the American experience and the aspirations of the Kingdom's vision 2030 by introducing the concepts and perspectives of the Kingdom's vision 2030, analyzing the reality of interest in the development of higher education, analyzing the reality of independence of the USA universities, determining the degree of the Saudi universities (Administrative, Financial, and Academic), and providing some suggestions to achieve this independence.
The descriptive approach was used in the study using questionnaires (including 39 items) which have been directed to the university’s leaders and academicians in three Saudi universities as follow: Kind Saud University in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, and King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran. The study population was (15801) leaders and academicians with a sample size of (375) respondents.
The study resulted in a number of results as follows:
The university leaders and academicians are agreed with a moderate level on the independence of the Saudi universities in light of the American university and aspirations of the Kingdom’s vision 2030.
The study raked the three dimensions of independence descending as the following: Academic dimension, then Administrative dimension, and finally the Financial dimension.
The university leaders and academicians are agreed on the administrative and financial independence of the Saudi universities in light of the American experience in a moderate level, while they are strongly agreed on the academic independence.
