Abstract

            The objective of the study was to determine the extent to which dimensions of medical geography are included in social studies curricula of preparatory stage. It also aimed at proposing a framework for developing the curriculum according to these dimensions and identifying the form of the proposed framework units. The descriptive research methodology was utilized in describing the results of analyzing operational objectives and the content of social studies curricula of preparatory stage. The study’s instructional materials included a list of medical geography dimensions, the proposed framework for developing social studies curricula of middle schools, the student booklet, and the teacher's guide for one of the proposed units "geography of health in the world's continents". Instruments were two forms for analyzing the objectives and content of social studies curricula according to dimensions of medical geography. Results showed a shortage related to dimensions of medical geography in social studies curricula of preparatory stage. Accordingly, I proposed a framework as well as a set of recommendations and directions for future research.
