Social Ostentation among Saudi Youth and Methods of Treatment in the Light of Islamic Education

Abstract

The study aimed to reveal the reality of ostentation from the point of view of Saudi youth by identifying ostentation causes, effects and treatment methods.The researcher used deductive and descriptive methods. She concluded that the existing level of ostentation among the youth in Saudi society is moderate. In addition, she found that one of the most important causes of ostentation is the desire to stand out, which leads young people to exaggerate ostentatious behavior and flaunting. As for the effects, the study concluded that the most important effect of ostentation is the increase in prices. As for the treatment of the phenomenon of social ostentation, the study concluded that the most important methods of treatment are raising children to rationalize consumption and to save. The study also found that there is a statistically significant difference between the responses of the study sample regarding the reasons of ostentation from their perspective based on several variables (age, sex, marital status) as following:
First, between the ages of (18-24) and (25-30), for the age group (25-30).
Second, among young males and females, for females.
Third, among married and unmarried people, for married people. 
Among study recommendations that the researcher concluded are raising social awareness by promoting Islamic culture of consumption, through awareness-raising programs, lectures, seminars and conferences held by various educational institutions such as schools, universities, institutes, mosques and media. Also through adopting a joint national plan between government institutions and civil society institutions.
