Promoting Education for Peace among Secondary School Students in Egypt (A Proposal)

Abstract

The study aimed to promote education for peace among secondary school students, through defining the concept of education for peace, its theoretical framework, efforts of international organizations in this regard, some foreign experiences such as the experience of both Australia and England and then the status quo of education for peace among secondary school students in Egypt. The study utilized the descriptive method and also a questionnaire to measure the status quo of education for peace among secondary school students in Egypt. The sample of the study included 300 students from five governorates; Cairo, Al- Monofia, Kafr El- Sheikh, Al- Gharbiya and Suez. The results of the study revealed that the concept of peace was relatively low among secondary school students, and there were significant differences between the responses of the sample of the study and the governorate variable in favor of Cairo governorate, as it was the highest governorate concerning education for peace and the subsequent one was Al- Monofi. Al- Gharbiya and Suez were the last governorates concerning education for peace. The results also showed differences concerning gender variable in favor of females and differences concerning environment variable in favor of rural environment, where it was more peaceful than the urban. There were also differences concerning educational administration variable in favor of Al- Bagour administration. The study concluded by setting a proposal to promote education for peace among secondary school students in Egypt.
