Abstract

Abstract: The current study aimed to try to take advantage of the European experience in the field of Digital Citizenship & Internet safety education in schools, and to formulate recommendations that could contribute to improve the practices of the pupils during the default roaming on the Internet.
And thus, the Study problem was identified in an attempt to answer the following key question: How can we develop the education Digital Citizenship and online safety in Egyptian schools through utilization of European expertise in this area, in line with the conditions of Egyptian society.
The current study was limited to dealing with Digital Citizenship and Internet safety education in schools through studying the European & Egyptian experience in this area.
The researcher used the comparative approach, which is the most suitable methods used, and the most significant on comparative education, and most comprehensive subsidiary of the curriculum, as he is the right approach to such a study.
The Study found a set of results, including:

The two experiments were similar interest in the teaching of subjects and issues of Digital Citizenship and Internet safety in the school curriculum in Egypt and most European countries.
2. The two experiments differed in that the European schools are responsible for the allocation of the hours number of issues of Digital Citizenship and safety on the Internet and the development of specific arrangements for the distribution of content between courses. In Egypt the higher authorities of Education bear this responsibility.
The two experiments were similar in dealing with specific topics of Digital Citizenship and online safety and included in the curriculum, such as e-infringement on the Internet, the rules of safe use of the Internet, and means of protection on the Internet, issues of online privacy, issues of loading and copyright, and communicate with strangers on the Web.
The two experiments were similar in the presence of forms of cooperation between local education authorities and international bodies in the area of ​​teacher training on information and communication technology, and on teaching methods of Digital Citizenship and online Safety.
The two experiments were similar in the participation of public and private sector in organizing awareness campaigns in schools and the community to raise awareness among students, teachers, parents and all members of the community on Digital Citizenship and safe use of the Internet.
The two experiments were similar in the presence of cooperation between education authorities and some agencies and institutions working in the field of communications and information technology in the field of awareness on online safety and preparing of training and educational materials and distribute them to schools.

The study resulted in the formulation of some recommendations that can help Egyptian schools to improve their practices and practices of their students, and safe use of modern technologies and the Internet, and not to be subjected to any potential risks while roaming on the Internet.
