Abstract

The present study aimed at identifying the degree to which college of education students recognize and use the competencies needed for teaching using computers. A questionnaire was developed to assess these competencies, and a proficiency test to test students' knowledge of these competencies. The sample consisted of 235 higher education diploma students in Taibah University. Results showed the variety of views held by students in the different specializations (literary – scientific). Results showed a statistically significant mean difference (at 0.01 level) between literary students and scientific students favoring those of the scientific specializations. Also a significant correlation of 0.26 was found between students' responses on the questionnaire and their answers to the test.
