Abstract

This research aimed at developing a flexible learning environment based on electronic projects and investigating its effect on enhancing database design skills and self-confidence among education technology students. In order to achieve that, the researcher developed the following tools and materials: a questionnaire to identify database design skills that are necessary for the first year education technology students in using Microsoft Access Program, a questionnaire to identify the criteria of designing a flexible learning environment based on electronic projects strategy, a cognitive test  to assess database design skills needed for using Microsoft Access Program, an observation card to assess the performance skills of the database design needed for using Microsoft access program ,an evaluation card for  produced electronic projects as well as a self-confidence scale. The researcher also developed a flexible learning environment based on electronic projects. A random sample of forty five first grade educational technology students participated in the research in the 2019/ 2020 academic year at the faculty of Education, Damietta University. Findings revealed that: Using the flexible learning environment based on electronic projects achieved η2≤ 0.14 in enhancing the cognitive as well as the performance skills for the database design among the research sample, Evaluation card for produced learning projects revealed that the degree of students' proficiency in the research sample in producing learning projects is not less than 85%. The findings also revealed that using the flexible learning environment based on electronic projects achieved η2≤ 0.14 in enhancing self –confidence among the research sample.
The research recommendations concluded on the importance of encouraging those in charge of the educational process to care about developing flexible learning environments in light of the principles and foundations of their design and  to benefit from the list of design criteria that were reached in the current research when designing and developing flexible learning environments based on electronic projects  as well as the need to encourage those in charge of the educational process to employ  electronic project strategy in developing students' various skills.
