The Reality of Using Computer as a Learning Tool with Intellectual Disability Pupils from their Teachers’ Perspectives

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the reality of using computers as an educational tool with pupils with intellectual disabilities from the teachers’ perspectives in the city of Jeddah, and the effectiveness of its use according to different variables (gender, years of service, and training courses).  The main question of the study centered on identifying the reality of using computer as an educational tool by teachers of intellectual disabilities. The study method is represented in the descriptive survey approach, the questionnaire was prepared as a study tool consisting of two parts: The first part included preliminary data on the study sample: (gender, years of service, and training courses), and the second part included (20) paragraphs represented the axes of the study questions, and the questionnaire was applied to the study sample that consisted of (200) male and female teachers. The results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences attributed to the study variables. While the study concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which are:  expanding the access of computers in teaching pupils with intellectual disabilities. In addition, transferring the experiences of teachers who expert of using computer to their colleagues, finally, overcoming the difficulties facing the use of computer in teaching pupils with intellectual disabilities, with the availability of materials and human resources.
