The Effectiveness of a (Distance) Counseling Program for Life Skills of Mothers of Kindergarten Children with Intellectual Disabilities in Improving Self-esteem of their Children during the Corona Pandemic.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a distance counseling program for life skills of mothers of kindergarten children with intellectual disabilities in improving the self-esteem of their children during the Corona pandemic. Participants consisted of two groups: the experimental group which included (6) mothers of kindergarten children with intellectual disabilities, and the control one which included (4) mothers of kindergarten children with intellectual disabilities.The research utilized the following instruments: Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale, Adaptive Behavior Scale, Self-Esteem Scale by the researchers, and the Counseling Program by the researchers, effectiveness of experimental procedures scale by the researchers. Mothers were trained on (40) counseling sessions for a period of approximately (10) weeks, at a rate of (4) sessions per week. The researchers used the quasi-experimental approach. To analyze the data of the research, Mann Whiteny and Wilcoxon tests were used. The research results revealed that there were statistically significant differences between the ranks mean scores of the experimental and control groups in the post-test of the total score of self-esteem dimensions and of each dimension separately, in favor of the experimental group. In addition, the results revealed that there were statistically significant differences between the ranks mean scores of the experimental group in the pre and post-tests of the total score of self-esteem dimensions and of each dimension separately, in favor of the post-test. Also, the results revealed that there were no statistically significant differences between the ranks mean scores of the experimental group in the post and follow up-tests of the total score of self-esteem dimensions and of each dimension separately.
