Abstract

The current study aimed at monitoring the current situation of student participation in the management of general secondary schools in Egypt from the point of view of managers, teachers and students, in order to develop proposed mechanisms to activate student participation in the management of these schools. The Research adopted the descriptive design. To achieve the objective of the study, a questionnaire was prepared addressed to a sample of (340) managers and teachers,  and a sample of (320) students in the governorates of Fayoum, Cairo and Minya. The study concluded that the absence of the concept of student participation in school management among students, and the lack of conviction of the administration and teachers of the idea of students’ participation in school management operations are some of the most important obstacles facing the activation of student participation in the management of public secondary schools in Egypt. The researcher recommended the need for the existence of legislations that regulate  student participation in the management of secondary schools and legitimize them, so that it includes the areas of student participation, the councils in which students can participate and their specializations within them, and the bodies that can supervise and follow- up students.
