A proposed functional curriculum in science based on life-centered learning and its impact on developing scientific concepts, health awareness and improving body image for mentally handicapped students
The science curriculum is one of the important approaches that links the disabled person to his daily life, as he studies the phenomena and situations around him in nature. Therefore, attention must be paid to building and developing science curricula for the mentally handicapped, and then the current research goal is to propose a science curriculum for the mentally disabled who are able to learn and who have limited mental abilities at the stage Their intelligence ranges between 50-70 degrees on the Grossman Intelligence Scale, in the light of life-centered education, and measuring its impact on developing scientific concepts, health awareness, and improving their body image. With scientific concepts, then the "Human Body Unit" was prepared, which is one of the units of the proposed curriculum, a test of scientific concepts, a measure of health awareness and an image of body improvement, and the proposed unit and tools were applied to the research group. One of the most important results was that there were statistically significant differences significance between the mean scores of the research group in the scientific concepts test, health awareness scale and body image. health and improving the body image of the mentally handicapped, where the effect size was large. Statistical equations have been used to explain these results to the importance of the proposed unit, and the topics of the unit have been studied in different ways and means, which made it easier for mentally handicapped students to understand and interpret them. At the primary level, attention should be paid to teachers of the mentally handicapped and trained on the latest programs and curricula for this category.
