Abstract

The study aimed to identify the relationship between the degree of problematic use of the Internet and the quality of the marital relationship in addition to the detection of the statistical differences between the averages of the total degree of the scale of the general problematic use of the Internet and the measure of the quality of the marital relationship as for (age, number of years of marriage, number of hours of use, level of education, profession, number of children). In order to achieve the objectives of the study, both the general problematic use of the Internet and the marital relationship quality scale were applied to a sample of (209) married women from The Holy City of Mecca and (221) married women from Cairo . The study results showed a positive and weak correlation between the general problematic use of the Internet and the quality of the marital relationship in both Saudi and the Egyptian sample . It showed also that there were statistically significant differences between both the Saudi and the Egyptian sample as for the problematic use of the Internet attributable to the level of education and that there were no statistically significant differences in the problematic use of the Internet attributable to the age of the Egyptian sample . Moreover, the results showed the existence of statistically significant differences in the general problematic use of the Internet as for the Saudi sample and the Egyptian sample  attributable to  (Profession and number of hours of using the internet ) for the sake of non working women and for the larger number of hours of usage ( 4 hours and more ) while there are no statistically significant differences in the general problematic use of the Internet in the Saudi sample and the Egyptian sample attributable to (number of years of marriage , number of children) . The results of the study indicated that there were statistically significant differences in the quality of the marital relationship due to the number of children as for in the Saudi sample for the sake of the families who have three children or less , while the results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the quality of the marital relationship in the Egyptian sample due to the number of children . The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the quality of the marital relationship between both the Saudi and the Egyptian sample attributable to (age, number of years of marriage, number of hours of use, level of education, occupation). In light of the results of the study, the researcher recommended carrying out a similar study on married men and women together in several Arab countries and comparing the results, which helps to enrich the scientific research in this field.
