The effectiveness of a training program based on some productive habits of mind in reducing non-functional mind wandering and developing harmonious academic passion among university students under academic observation

Abstract

        The current study aimed to verify the effectiveness of a training program based on some productive habits of mind in reducing non-functional mind wandering and developing harmonious academic passion among those under academic observation. The study sample consisted of two groups: one experimental and the other control, each number (12) students from the College of Education in Rustaq, University of Technology and Applied Sciences in the Sultanate of Oman. The following tools were applied: non-functional mind Wandering scale, and Harmonious Academic Passion scale, a training program based on some productive habits of mind (all of which are prepared by the researcher). The study hypotheses were addressed using the Mann Whitney test for independent measurements, and the Wilcoxon test for related measurements: There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups in the post test measurement on the two scales: mind wandering, and harmonious academic passion in favor of the experimental group. There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group on the two scales: non-functional mind Wandering, and Harmonious Academic Passion in the pre-test and post-test measurements in favor of the post test. There are no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group on the two scales: non-functional mind wandering, and harmonious academic passion in the post test and follow up test. The effectiveness of a training program based on some productive habits of mind in reducing mind wandering and developing harmonious academic passion among university students under academic observation.
