Abstract

This study aimed to identify the relationship between cognitive failure and both psychological distress and machiavellianism, identifying the relationship between psychological distress and machiavellianism, explaining the differences between graduate students at the faculty of education in each of cognitive failure, Psychological distress and Machiavellianism according to gender and chronological age, and machiavellianism prediction through the dimensions of both cognitive failure and psychological distress, revealing the structural model of the relationships between cognitive failure and both psychological distress and machiavellianism. study sample consisted of (320) A male and female graduate student at the faculty of education, Alexandria University. The researcher used the following tools: cognitive failure measurement, machiavellianism measurement (prepared by the researcher), and psychological distress measurement prepared by: Poulin, et al. (2005) and the Arabization of Elsaid Kamel El-Sherbiny (2012). The current study is based on the correlational descriptive approach. The study reached the following results: There was no statistically significant effect of gender (male/female) and chronological age (less than 30/greater than 30), and the interaction between them in their impact on the study variables among graduate students, except for the presence of statistically significant differences between students over 30 and students under 30 years of age in The Machiavellian variable in direction of students under 30 years old, there is a positive, statistically significant correlation between cognitive failure and each of: psychological distress, and Machiavellianism among students in the study sample, and there is also a positive, statistically significant correlation between psychological distress and Machiavellianism among students in the study sample, and Machiavellianism can be predicted through the variables of cognitive failure and psychological distress among graduate students, and the results showed that the variables of the study among them constitute a model that shows the relationship of influence and mutual influence between each of cognitive failure, psychological distress and Machiavellianism.
