Moral injury and its relationship to the symptoms of depression in the students of internship in the faculties of Medicine and nursing

Abstract

The current study aimed to reveal the relationship between moral injury and depressive symptoms among students of internship in the faculties of Medicine and nursing. The study sample consisted of (188) male and female students, (94) male and female students of internship in the Faculty of medicine, with an average age of (24) and a standard deviation of (8550), (94) male and female students of the Faculty of Nursing with an average age of (22.39) and a standard deviation of (8825.). The researcher used the moral injury scale set up by the researcher, the depression symptom scale for Beck. The researcher used the descriptive approach. The results showed: The presence of a statistically significant positive correlation relationship between the total score of the moral injury scale and the total score of the depressive symptom scale at the Level (0.01). Students of internship in the Faculty of Medicine and nursing suffer from moral injury in varying proportions and levels. Students of internship in the Faculty of nursing suffer from depressive symptoms in varying proportions and levels. In contrast, there are no differences in the proportions and level of depressive symptoms among internship students of internship in the Faculty of Medicine. There are no statistically significant differences depending on gender between male students of internship in the Faculty of Medicine and students of the Faculty of Nursing on the scale of moral wound. There are significant differences on the scale of moral injury between females of the Faculty of Medicine and nursing in the direction of females of the Faculty of Medicine. There is an interaction between gender and faculty The moral wound scale, the presence of statistically significant differences on the scale of depressive symptoms at a level less than (0.01) depending on the College in the direction of medical college students. The presence of statistically significant differences depending on the type on the scale of depressive symptoms in the female direction. The lack of interaction between the college and the type on the scale of depressive symptoms, depressive symptoms can be predicted by the moral injury. The researcher recommends the need to work hard to reduce the symptoms of depression and moral injury through the Prevention of individuals at risk more than other ordinary people.
