Approaches of Scientific Production in the Field of Fundamentals of Education published in the Journal of Educational Sciences at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University and its research gaps "Analytical-Developmental Study"

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the objective and methodological directions of scientific production in the field of educational foundations published in the Educational Sciences Journal of Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in terms of classifying its foundations, fields and topics within each field, and its methodology and tools, in addition to identifying the general characteristics of scientific production, and revealing the manifestations of research gaps in it, in addition to the proposed solutions to overcome research gaps in educational research in the field of fundamentals of education published in journals (Journal of Educational Sciences of Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University as a model) from the point of view of experts from the chief editors and members of the editorial board in scientific journals specialized in education foundations.
The researcher used the descriptive approach using the method of content analysis and the method of future studies using the method of expert symposium. The study relied on the method of a comprehensive inventory of all the vocabulary of the first study population (all research on the fundamentals of education published in the Journal of Educational Sciences of Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, numbering (62) research, since the issuance of the first issue in 1436 AH until the last issue No. (32) in 1444 AH), As for the study sample of experts, they were chosen by the intentional method, and the number of respondents was (14) experts. The researcher used the content analysis tool (card) prepared by her, and held two group seminars (remotely).
The study reached a number of results, the most important of which are:

Weakness of the relative balance in the directions of research in the fundamentals of education in terms of their types and fields, whereas attention was directed to the study of educational fundamentals by (48.38%), and the Islamic and social fundamentals by (17.74%) for each of them, and the research published in this field did not focus on other types such as political fundamentals, which Its representation percentage amounted to (8.1%), economic by (4.8%), and historical by (3.22%), while scientific production was devoid of research in philosophical fundamentals.
Weakness balance between the research methods and tools used in the scientific production of the field of fundamentals of education published in the journal, and the predominance of the quantitative approach with the widespread use of the (descriptive survey) approach at a rate of (56.25%), followed by the descriptive (documentary) approach at a rate of (18.75%), followed by the introspective approach (7.5%), then other approaches (future studies - historical-relational-comparative-inductive content analysis) followed in small percentages between (6.25-1.25%), while the results of the analysis of studies published in the journal revealed a Complete absence of experimental and qualitative research methods.
Survey descriptive research is the dominant pattern in most of the scientific production in the field of fundamentals of education in the journal, with a high rate of (56.25%), and that individual research is the dominant feature in the research published in the journal at a rate of (92%), with weakness for joint research.
The study also revealed, through the results of the expert symposium, a set of proposals and mechanisms that can contribute to overcoming research gaps in educational research in the field of educational fundamentals published in journals (Journal of Educational Sciences of Imam Muhammad bin Saud University as a model), which was revealed by the current study.
