Proposed Mechanizms for Combating Workplace Bullying in Egyptian Universities in the Light of International Best Practices

Abstract

The study aimed to confront bullying in Egyptian universities as workplaces by proposing mechanisms to do so. The study developed a conceptual framework for bullying in the workplace, then described and analyzed the best international practices to confront bullying in different universities around the world, and revealed the reality of bullying in Egyptian universities as workplaces by conducting an analytical study of the administrative judiciary documents, the Egyptian university regulation law and the executive regulations governing Egyptian universities, and finally proposed certain mechanisms to confront bullying in Egyptian universities in the light of international best practices. The study used the descriptive method, in addition to the methodology of best practices. The most important results were: the prevalence of bullying in Egyptian universities and the fear of declaring it, there is no ethical code to reduce bullying in Egyptian universities, the need to limit the abuse of power and influence for those in positions, the importance of setting clear rules and policies to reduce bullying, and that there are serious physical, psychological and health damages that happen to those who are subjected to bullying, even if they do not attribute it to bullying behaviors because they are not aware of it.
