The effectiveness of counseling program to develop social responsibility and enhance the citizenship values among university students

Abstract

The study aimed to: (1) Investigate the relationship between social responsibility and citizenship values ​​among university students. (2) Explore the differences between males and females in social responsibility and citizenship values. (3) Investigate the effectiveness of the counseling program to develop the social responsibility and citizenship values. The study's sample consisted of undergraduate students in Education college, King Khalid University, their ages were from 18 to 22 years (Mage=19.79 ± 0.73). The researchers used descriptive and quasi-experimental approaches, based on experimental design with two groups (experimental and control), pre and post measurement, in order to identify the impact of experimental variable (program) in dependent variables. The researchers design and used the following tools: social responsibility scale, citizenship values scale, and the counseling program. The study reached the following results: (1) there was a positive significant statistical relationship between social responsibility and citizenship values ​​among university students, (2) there weren't significant differences between males and females in social responsibility and citizenship values, and (3) the counseling program was effective to develop social responsibility and citizenship values for experimental group.
