Developing the geography curriculum for students in the first grade secondary school in the light of green economy concept to develop the dimensions of sustainable development and social responsibility

Abstract

The current research aimed at developing the geography curriculum of the first year secondary stage students in the light of green economy concept to develop the dimensions of sustainable development and social responsibility. To reach this aim, the researcher prepared a checklist including the concepts of green economy and sustainable development; in addition to designing a student book with the topics and activities of the developed units. The researcher prepared also a teacher’s guide; a test for assessing student’s both cognitive and behavioral situational sides, and a scale for assessing social responsibility (towards family, peers, school and society). The three instruments were administered to the control and experimental groups before and after conducting the experimental treatment. The results indicated the effectiveness of the curriculum developed in the light of the green economy concepts in enhancing the 1st year secondary stage students’ social responsibility as well as their cognitive and behavioral domains of sustainable development.
