Attitudes of Mothers of Children with Down Syndrome towards Psychological Counseling and Guidance Services in Riyadh City on light of some Demographic Variables

Abstract

This research aims to identify the attitudes of mothers of children with Down syndrome towards psychological counseling and guidance services in Riyadh City and identify differences in their attitudes that attribute to the variable of the child's gender, the mothers’ educational level, economic level of the family, and the number of children. A descriptive method and questionnaire were applied to measure attitudes towards counseling and psychological guidance services (prepared by the researcher) on a simple random sample consisting of (211) mothers. Results show: The attitudes of mothers towards counseling and psychological guidance services are positive, and there are statistically significant differences in mothers attitude towards these services according to the gender variable in favor of those who have male children, and there are no statistically significant differences in mothers attitude towards these services according to the mother's level of education, number of children in the family, and the economic status of the family. Based on the results reached, the researcher presented number of recommendations and suggestions, the most important of which is the design of counseling programs to reinforce the attitudes of mothers of children with Down syndrome towards counseling and psychological guidance services.
