This study aimed at identifying the effect of using formative drama on the development of speaking skills in the English language for joint program students at King Khalid University. The quasi-experimental approach was used. The study population consisted of joint program students at King Khalid University. The participants of the study consisted of 80 students divided into two categories (males, females), and each category consisted of (40) students, and each category was divided into two groups, (experimental and control). The results of the study showed that there is an effect of the formative drama strategy in developing the speaking skills of students of joint programs in learning English for the male sample and that there is an effect of the strategy of formative drama in developing speaking skills for students of joint programs in learning English for the female sample. The results also showed that there are significant differences statistically for the effect of the formative drama strategy on the development of speaking skills for students of joint programs in learning English due to the gender variable, in favor of males.
