Promoting Education for Global Citizenship among Secondary School Students in Egypt (A Proposal)

Abstract

The research paper aimed to identify the concept of raising global citizenship and its importance, and display challenges that imposed the need to adopt this concept, and the objectives that seek to achieve, and the principles that underpin it. The role of the teacher had also been highlighted in providing students with attributes and skills of global citizenship, and to enable them to actively participate at the local and international levels, and the nature of the suitable curriculum, as well as the teaching activities and approaches which help them to achieve this goal. The study utilized the descriptive method and also a questionnaire to measure the role of the teacher and the curricula for promoting global citizenship among secondary school students in Egypt. The sample of the study included 319 teachers from Daqahlia  GovernorateThe field study resulted in a number of findings including:the inclusion of global citizenship within the teacher preparation programs at faculties of education, adopting the culture of comprehensive school, which is based on respect for diversity and differences, paying attention to raising global citizenship since the early years of an individual's life, making raising global citizenship an integral part of the school subjects and interest in diversifying teaching approaches and activities used by the teacher as the cooperative approach of learning, the active learning approach and the technological approach, which relies on communicating ideas through innovative and creative ways, and reaching to a wider audience. The research paper concluded with presenting a proposal on how to Promote Educatimon for Global Citizenship among Secondary School Students in Egypt.
