A Proposed Educational Vision for the Role of Aswan University in Achieving the Requirements of Green Education that Supports Environmental Citizenship for Its Students

Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the role of Aswan University in achieving the requirements of green education supporting environmental citizenship among students and the obstacles to achieving it among university youth, and to present a proposed educational vision for the role of Aswan University in achieving the requirements of green education. The descriptive approach was used to achieve the objectives of the study. The study instruments (interviews and a questionnaire prepared by the researcher) were administered to a sample of university leaders, faculty members and their assistants (n=120). Findings indicated a lack of interest in developing green education programs promoting environmentally friendly behaviors and preserving the environment and its resources, the university’s weak interest in developing a clear strategic plan to achieve the university’s green standards and environmental citizenship goals. The study concluded by presenting a proposed educational vision for the role of Aswan University in achieving the requirements of green education supporting environmental citizenship among students, based on a philosophy, starting points, foundations, goals, procedures, and the guarantees that must be available for the success of the proposed educational vision.
