Abstract

The research aimed to develop predictive reading and narrative writing skills among fourth-grade pupils at the primary stage. These are the skills necessary for them to read the visual and verbal reading texts included in the Arabic language book and then develop their narrative writing skills in the six areas of narrative writing revealed by the current research, which are writing a description of an event in a narrative way, writing a descriptive and informational text, and writing a personal or official letter. Writing an autobiography or biography, and finally writing a persuasive text. The research sample consisted of (68) fourth-grade primary school pupils, divided into two groups, the experimental group and control group, (34) for each group. They were selected from Abdul Aziz Ali Primary School, the West Zagazig Educational Administration, where the experimental group studied using the RAFT strategy, while the control group did not. The control group was subjected to no experimental treatments but studied reading texts and areas of narrative writing in the regular instruction. The researcher relied on preparing a list of predictive reading skills necessary for fourth-grade pupils and a test aimed at measuring those skills. He also relied on building a list of appropriate narrative writing skills for fourth-grade pupils, a test aimed at measuring those skills, and an analytical rating list to correct pupils’ writing. One of the most prominent findings of the research was the effectiveness of using the RAFT strategy in developing predictive reading and narrative writing skills among fourth-grade primary school pupils (the research sample), as the statistical results indicated a noticeable improvement in the performance of the experimental group pupils on the predictive reading and narrative writing tests compared to the control group.
