Abstract

This research aimed at determining the effect of using a program in statistics based on the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM) using electronic learning anchors in developing the depth of statistical knowledge and statistical sense among middle school students. To achieve this goal, research materials represented in a list of CCSSM in Statistics for first-year middle school students, a list of statistical sense skills, and a program in statistics based on CCSSM using electronic learning anchors were devised. In addition, a statistical sense skills test and a depth of statistical knowledge test were also prepared. The study adopted the quasi-experimental design and used a pre – post experimental group. 35 students from the first-year middle school participated in the research, The program in statistics based on CCSSM using electronic learning anchors was administered to the participants. a statistical processing was done using paired sample t-test, Results revealed that there was a statistically significant difference (p<0.01) in the total scores of both the Depth of Statistical Knowledge and Statistical Sense skills tests, as well as their sub-skills, favoring the post-test. Thus, it was concluded that using the program in statistics based on CCSSM was effective in improving both the depth of statistical knowledge and statistical sense skills of the first-year middle school students. Considering these results, some recommendations were presented.
