Developing the cultural identity awareness of the Egyptian external full mission scholarships holders

Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the dimensions and level of the cultural identity of the Egyptian external full mission scholarships holders. Descriptive method was adopted to attain the aim of this study. Scale of cultural identity awareness was developed by the present researcher. After ensuring the validity and reliability of the scale, it was administered on 81 scholarship holders.
Results indicated that the level of of the cultural identity awareness did not reach the acceptable level 75% which equals the mean score 3.75 because the overall mean score was 3.56 and the percentage was 71%.
The means of 23 items out of 46 items were higher than the mean score. Those items represent 50% of the scale indicating that there is a change in the cultural identity of the sample.
All dimensions of the cultural identity (religion, language, values and social habits) got means that were lower than the criterion (3.75) referring that the level of the cultural identity awareness was medium.
Regarding the comparison between the dimensions of the cultural identity, religion came at the first rank (3.63), values and social habits occupied the second rank (3.54) while language came at the third rank (3.51) indicating that there was little gab between the three dimensions.
In the light of the given results, some techniques for developing cultural identity were reached.
