A science education program based on challenge-based learning to develop 21st century skills and environmental citizenship among preparatory school students

Abstract

The research aimed to build a science education program based on challenge-based learning and measure its effectiveness in developing 21st century skills and environmental citizenship among preparatory school students. To achieve this goal, the researcher identified the foundations of the proposed program, then prepared the proposed program and built the assessment tools represented in: the 21st century skills scale and the environmental citizenship values ​​scale. the researcher followed the one-group experimental approach, and by conducting a pre/post application for research group of (30) students at Al-Nasser Salah El-Din School affiliated with the Khanka Educational Administration in Cairo Governorate and comparison between the mean scores of the pre- and post-applications, and monitoring and processing the data statistically, determined the effectiveness of a program A science program based on challenge-based learning in developing 21st century skills and environmental citizenship among preparatory school students.
The results of the research showed that there was a statistically significant difference at the level of (α ≤ 0.05) between the mean scores of students of the experimental group students in the post test for both the 21st century skills scale and environmental citizenship scale as a whole and in each of its dimensions in favor of the post test scores, These results indicate the effectiveness of a science education program based on challenge-based learning in developing 21st century skills and environmental citizenship among Preparatory school students.
