Abstract

The current research aims to present a set of proposed future scenarios as possible alternatives to benefit from academic excellence to improve the ranking of Al-Azhar University in light of some international university rankings. This is done by clarifying the philosophical framework of academic excellence and identifying its intellectual foundations, the dimensions of achieving academic excellence at Al-Azhar University, as well as the philosophy of international university rankings and the most important criteria for some international university rankings, and the reality of Al-Azhar University's ranking in some international rankings. The research relied on the descriptive approach, especially the prospective approach using the scenarios method because it is appropriate for the nature of the research. The research concluded that achieving academic excellence contributes to improving Al-Azhar University's ranking in international university rankings; therefore, some future scenarios were set to enhance academic excellence at Al-Azhar University and thus improve its ranking in international university rankings. The proposed scenarios were also evaluated by educational experts at the Faculty of Education, Al-Azhar University, and their views agreed on the items of those scenarios. The research recommended paying attention to apply academic excellence techniques at the university and its activities to continue achieving a better rank in international university rankings. The research also recommended the application of the innovative scenario.
