Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using the RAFT (Role, Audience, Format, Topic) strategy in teaching Arabic to develop close reading and analytical writing skills among first-year preparatory female students. The researcher adopted a quasi-experimental design, applying a test composed of two parts: one part measuring close reading skills and the other measuring analytical writing skills. The experiment was conducted on two groups: an experimental group taught using the RAFT strategy and a control group taught through traditional methods. The statistical analysis showed significant differences between the mean scores of the two groups in the post-test in favor of the experimental group, indicating the effectiveness of the strategy in developing the targeted skills. The study recommends integrating the RAFT strategy into Arabic language teaching and training teachers to use it effectively in enhancing students’ reading and writing abilities.
