Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using an educational program based on cognitive apprenticeship in developing grammatical concepts and problem-solving ability of primary stage male pupils in Taif. The study followed a quasi-experimental design of two groups: experimental and control. The sample of the study consisted of (57) male pupils, divided into two groups: experimental (28) pupils, and control (29) pupils, chosen from the sixth grade of the primary-school pupils. The study applied the following tools: a grammatical concepts test and a problem-solving scale. The experimental group was taught using the educational program while the control group was taught using the regular way. The results indicated that there were statistically significant differences in favor of the experimental group that studied the educational program based on cognitive apprenticeship. The study recommended using the cognitive apprenticeship, and conducting further studies on the effectiveness of cognitive apprenticeship in other branches of Arabic such as rhetoric and literature, or taking other variables not covered by this study, such as gender and the school stage, for example.
