Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the reality of the inclusion of the study Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) requirements in mathematics textbook for the first to fourth grades primary grade in Saudi Arabia .
To achieve this , the researcher reviewed related literature to this study, and reviewed the theoretical framework for TIMSS, the researcher got the translation of the requirements of TIMSS, then developed a content analysis protocol for primary grades math textbook from the first grade to fourth grade (8 Textbooks). The researcher used the descriptive approach through the use of a content analysis tool. After assuring the validity and reliability of the tool, it has been used to collect the data to answer the questions of the study. In this study, the researcher used the following statistical methods : frequency and percentages , Holisti equation to calculate the reliability coefficient of the content analysis protocol , and the equation of the test of difference between the ratios. This study revealed the following:
1 . The math textbooks do not achieve the percentages specified for the requirements of TIMSS in the domain of mathematics content.
2 . The math textbooks do not achieve the percentages specified for the requirements of the TIMSS in the cognitive domain.
Based on these results the study recommended the following:
1 . Applying the results of this study in developing the mathematics textbooks at the primary level.
2 . Adding the requirements of TIMSS to the goals of teaching mathematics at the primary level and working to achieve them.
3 . Achieving the requirements of TIMSS in mathematics textbooks in primary level.
4 . Reviewing the content of math textbooks on a regular basis to evaluate and develop them to keep up with international standards.
