Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the content of science textbooks for the preparatory stage in the light of the next generation science standards (NGSS). The study group consisted of science text books scheduled for the preparatory stage in the academic year 2018-2019, and the study tools was a list of (NGSS) and content analysis card designed in the light of the list. The study finding that: for the field of life sciences, science and engineering practices were found in high degree and 100% percent , while the disciplinary core ideas were found in low degree and 46.7% percent, and crosscutting concepts were found in middle degree and 57.14% percent. In the field of physics, science and engineering practices were found inhigh degree and 100% percent , the disciplinary core ideas were found in high degree and 75% percent, the crosscutting conceptswere found in high degree and 100% percent. As for the field of Earth and space sciences, science and engineering practices were found in high degree and 100% percent, while the disciplinary core ideas were found in low degree and 45.5% percent, and crosscutting concepts were  found in middle degree and 71.4% percent. As for thefield of engineering design, science and engineering practices were found in high degree and 100% percent , didn't find any disciplinary core ideas in this field, and crosscutting concepts were found in high degree and 100% percent. The most topics contained in the science textbooks for the preparatory stage and not included in( NGSS) are lenses at 21.5%, and the speed of chemical reactions by 16.25%, and mirrors by 13.75%.
