Abstract

The present study aimed at identifying ego functions in the  gifted shy child.  The study sample consisted of eight fifth grade students in the primary schools. The study used Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV) (prepared by Abd Elrakeeb Ahmed Elbeheary, 2017), Children's Shyness Questionnaire  (translated by Ahmed Abd  ElRahman Ibrahim, 1995), and Rorschach test (Ego Impairment Index).  The study has found  that reality testing in the gifted shy child is intact but sometimes there is a sudden sliding in thinking process in social situations. The study has also found that the gifted shy child  uses mechanisms of identification, sublimation, anticipation and regression. The study has also found some difficulties in the relationship of the gifted shy child with the object.
