Abstract

This research aimed to identify the effect of using the Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) strategy on developing the reflective thinking and habits of mind of preparatory stage pupils. The group of the research was comprised of 72 pupils of the first year preparatory stage, and was divided into a control group and an experimental group. The tools and materials of the research included: teacher’s manual to teach the selected unit using the Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) strategy, students’ worksheets, the Reflective Thinking Test, and Habits of Mind Scale. The results of the research indicated that using the Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) strategy in teaching science has a great effect on developing the reflective thinking and the habits of mind among first year preparatory stage pupils. The results have also shown that there is a positive, statistically significant correlation at level (0.05) between the means of scores of the experimental group on the pre-post administration of both the Reflective Thinking Test and the Habits of Mind Scale.
