The Effectiveness of The Negotiation Approach in Developing Critical Reading and Creative Thinking

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to measure the effectiveness of the negotiation approach in developing the critical reading and creative thinking for Elementary 9th grade students in Riyadh public schools.
 To achieve this, A Quasi experimental design was administered.
A pre/ posttests also prepared and administered for a randomly sample of 44 9th grade students in one of Riyadh public schools along with Torrance creative thinking Test.
 The sample was divided into control group and experimental group.
 The control group study the old approach, while the experimental group study the negotiation approach that aimed to develop the students’ critical reading and creative thinking.
Significant differences between the experimental and control groups on the post-test and between the experimental group’s pre- and post-test scores, indicates   an effect of the negotiation approach on the students’ critical reading and creative thinking skills
Recommendations and suggestions included more studies should be done to develop critical reading and creative thinking in schools for different levels,
Other approaches and strategies for developing the negotiation approach must be introduced to modern pedagogy.
Integrating the negotiation approach into schools and universities’ curriculum will   create critical writers and readers as well as creative thinkers.
