Abstract

This study aimed to: determine the most important skills of the twenty-first century that can be included in the teacher educational preparation programs, and to reveal the reality of including these skills in these programs, in addition to proposing mechanisms to include those skills in the teacher educational preparation programs. Through the descriptive method, the researcher designed a questionnaire consisting of 7 main skills and 42 sub-skills in order to determine the degrees of importance and availability of these skills in the teacher preparation programs. After applying the questionnaire on 73 faculty members in the College of Education at King Khalid University in Abha, the results showed that all skills were very important, but their availability in teacher educational preparation programs was fair. The most important skills were: skills for mastering the information culture, and skills of understanding multiple cultures. The most available skills were: communication and participatory skills, and those of understanding multiple cultures. The least available skills were: innovation and creativity skills, and mastery of media culture. In light of these results, the study proposed several mechanisms to include the most important skills in teacher education preparation programs.
