Abstract

This research aimed at investigating the effect of a proposed program based on active learning of teaching mathematics in sixth graders' of mathematical verbal problem solving skills and anxiety reduction. To achieve this aim, the researcher prepared investigating the effect of a proposed program based on active learning and prepared  two tools (mathematical verbal problem solving  skills test and a mathematics anxiety scale) for a deliberate sample, which consisted of (30) sixth grade elementary students at Alez School in Jazan Educational District, Saudi Arabia.  The research sample was divided into  two equivalent groups: An experimental group (16) students, and the other control group (14) students. Pre and post mathematical verbal problem solving  skills test and mathematics anxiety scale were applied for both groups. The research results showed statistically significant differences at level (0.05) between the means of experimental and control groups in both post mathematical verbal problem solving  skills test (understanding the problem – devising a plan – carrying out the plan – looking back-the skills as a whole), and mathematics anxiety scale in favor of the experimental group. In light of the research results, the research made some recommendations and suggestions for further research.
